Commercial Licensing

Kanehisa Laboratories owns and controls the rights to KEGG. Although the KEGG database is made freely available for academic use via the website, it is not in the public domain. All commercial use of KEGG requires a license. Pathway Solutions operates the KEGG FTP site and the KEGG mirror website for commercial customers and provides the following licenses.

End User License

• For end consumers of KEGG
• Includes rights to download and use KEGG FTP data (see content at the academic site) internally for business purposes
• Optionally includes rights to access the KEGG mirror site and use KEGG mapping tools (KEGG Mapper and KEGG Web Apps) for research and development purposes

Business License

• For businesses who assist end users (commercial end users with valid end user licenses or academic end users) by providing products or services
• Includes access rights to the KEGG FTP site
