Commercial Licensing

Kanehisa Laboratories owns and controls the rights to KEGG. Although the KEGG database is made freely available for academic use via the website, it is not in the public domain. All commercial use of KEGG requires a license. Pathway Solutions is the exclusive worldwide licensing agent for KEGG and provides the following licenses:

End User License

• For end consumers of KEGG
• Includes rights to download and use KEGG FTP data internally for business purposes and to use KEGG mapping tools for research and development purposes
• The content of KEGG FTP data for commercial users is identical to the content for academic users (see the Readme files in the KEGG FTP Academic Subscription) page
• The KEGG mapping tools including KEGG Mapper and KEGG Web Apps (with an enhanced version of map coloring URLs) are made available at the KEGG mirror site operated by Pathway Solutions

Business License

• For businesses who assist end users (commercial end users with valid end user licenses or academic end users) by providing products or services
• Includes access rights to the KEGG FTP site
